Children in care received a visit from an Olympic gold medallist yesterday to mark their achievements.

London 2012 super heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua visited children living in foster care or being cared for by Harrow Council to hand out awards for achievements including good behaviour.

The afternoon at Premier Housing Banqueting in Canning Road also included music and dance performances and a fashion show put on by youngsters who had collaborated with teachers at Harrow College.

The 23-year-old Londoner told the children: “When you’re young, there are sometimes a lot of distractions and it’s easy to get misguided.

“I’m still a kid myself and I’m still learning things all the time. As long as you have ambition, and you can find somewhere to put it, you will go far.

“A lot of people these days want a quick fix, or to get rich quick, but that won’t work. If you work hard and really put your mind to something, you achieve your dreams. With the right approach, anything is possible.”
