Swimmers can try their hand at a sport coming to the borough for the first time.

Haringey Aquatics is encouraging more people to learn how to play the sport at Tottenham Green Leisure Centre, in Tottenham Hale.

The club will build upon a programme first established at Haringey Aquatics in Crouch End Park Road training pool two years ago.

Club chairman Matthew Whitty said: “Water Polo in Tottenham is a historic first and a really positive addition to the community."

The tough physical game is like a cross between football and basketball, in which two teams try to score in goals at opposite ends of the pool.

A grant from the Tottenham Grammar School Foundation helped buy new folding, floating goals and other equipment.

The aquatics club's fundraising officer Margaid Gosschalk said: “We are very grateful to the Tottenham Grammar School Foundation and its generous grant to purchase important water polo equipment, including new, folding, floating goals.

“Thanks to their support, we can now offer young people in Tottenham, and the greater borough, increased access to water polo.”
