Young people will take to the council chamber to challenge cuts to the youth service.

Haringey Youth Council will hold a meeting the Civic Centre in High Road, Wood Green, between 4.30pm and 7pm tomorrow.

Although no agenda is currently available on Haringey Council's website, Haringey Youth Council says it intends to discuss plans in the council's budget to "cut the whole of the youth service".

The council proposes to cut £2,100,000 from the budget for young people's services, including young offenders by 2018. In 2013/14, the youth service budget was £2,100,000.

Teenagers from Bruce Grove Youth Centre will also attend the meeting to campaign for the centre to remain open.

The group, which has formed Save Our Youth Services, have launched a petition to save the centre, gathering more than 900 signatures.

They said: “We believe closing our youth centre and sacking our youth workers will make life for us worse and we do not understand why the council is doing this.

“Since the riots everyone says they will help young people. This is not helping.”
