The council have teamed up with two of the borough’s footballing aces to launch a scheme aimed at tackling obesity.

‘Shape up with Spurs’ is a 10 week programme from the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation. The programme will see the Foundation’s health and wellbeing team provide people in Haringey with free nutrition advice and exercise classes at Tottenham Community Sports Centre.

The twice-weekly sessions, launched by Spurs stars Heung-Min Son and Tom Carroll are open to people of all ages and abilities and have been backed by Haringey Council.

Cllr Peter Morton, cabinet member for health and wellbeing and chair of the Haringey obesity alliance said: “It’s fantastic to see Tottenham Hotspur - a key member of the Haringey Obesity Alliance - launching this important community health scheme. This programme will help more people to get the benefits that an active, healthy lifestyle brings, including reducing and preventing obesity locally.”

Grant Cornwell MBE, CEO of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “Obesity is a serious issue and we are working with other members of the Haringey Obesity Alliance to address these problems through initiatives like this.”
