An 18-year-old soprano saved a musical performance by standing in for a soloist.

Eleanor Grant saved the day at a world premiere of The English Patient Live at the Royal Albert Hall last Thursday.

Soloist Márta Sebestyén withdrew at the last minute due to illness, Ms Grant calmly took her place in front of a sell-out audience of thousands.

Eleanor, from Palmers Green, is currently studying double bass at the Royal Academy of Music.

She previously held Music and Drama scholarships at Queenswood, a girls’ boarding and day school in Brookmans Park, Hertfordshire.

The composer, Gabriel Yared, was extremely complimentary about Eleanor’s impeccable performance.
