A date has been set for a by-election in Bush Hill Park following the resignation of a sitting ward councillor.

Enfield Council has confirmed that a poll will take place on Thursday, November 22 to elect a successor to Conservative councillor Jon Daniels, who stood down in September.

Candidates are standing from all three main parties, along with the Green Party, the Women’s Equality Party and an independent candidate.

Bevin Betton will stand for Labour, James Andrew Hockney on behalf of the Conservatives and Robert John Wilson for the Liberal Democrats.

The Green Party will be represented by Benjamin Charles Maydon, and Tulip Hambleton will stand for the Women’s Equality Party.

Erol Ovayolu is standing on an independent platform.

Cllr Daniels triggered the by-election when he resigned “with immediate effect” on September 24 – a decision he said was due to “the pressures of balancing a family and work life”.

The move left the Conservative group with 14 members on Enfield Council – down from 17 following the local elections in May.

Two councillors, William Coleshill and Stephanos Ioannou, have been suspended by the Conservatives and are currently sitting as independent members of the council.

The deadline to register to vote for the Bush Hill Park by-election is Tuesday, November 6.
