Neighbours in a village overshadowed by a fatal stabbing will come together tonight for a vigil to remember the man killed.

Ahsanullah Nawazai, 20, was found seriously injured near St Bernadette Catholic Primary School in Walsingham Way, London Colney last Wednesday at 7.15pm.

The Walthamstow man, described by his family as a “lovely kid who always had a smile on his face” had suffered a number of stab wounds and was taken to hospital, where he later died.

Police cordoned off the street and the school was closed the next day.

To mark a week since Mr Nawazai's death, members of the community will gather close to where he was found tonight at 6pm.

Organiser Tracy Curran, a churchgoer at St Mary's Our Lady of Walsingham, said: "A couple of parents at the school were talking at church about it.

"A lot of people in the village were really quite upset by it.

"We wanted to give an outlet for people to come together and mark that this is an awful thing to have happened.

"This was tragic for everyone: for the man, for the family, for the people living in the area seeing these things they did not want to see.

"How do you tell the children why their school is closed?"
