As the year reached its half-way point, Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor vowed to claw back the money put into the “dead” Met Line Extension scheme - and reinvest it in a new solution for the town.

Mayor Taylor held talks to look at alternatives, including light rail or a guided bus scheme.

He pledged to protect the corridor the line was meant to run through from development, saying: “This scheme is just too important to our town to fall by the wayside."

A mother fighting to get her epileptic daughter cannabis oil said it was “ludicrous” she could legally give her opiates - but not a drug that could save her life.

Rosie Riddick was diagnosed with the condition when she was four, two years after an almost deadly battle with meningitis.

With Rosie suffering 10 seizures a day, her parents Victoria and Alex, took her to California two years ago to try cannabis oil as a last resort, and say it made the world of difference.

But back home in England, the drug was still banned for both recreational and medical use.

The Dennis family's hunt for a new home suitable for their sick son Seth was over.

Mick Bass agreed to leave the house his family had lived in for 70 years if it could help three-year-old Seth, who has leukaemia, get better.

Adam and Madeleine Dennis were desperately looking for a bigger home so Seth, who was forced to share with his sisters, aged 10 and 12, could have his own room.

Mr Bass and Mr Dennis had been in touch previously but when Mr Bass’ brother Steven recognised the Dennises from an appeal in the Watford Observer while shopping in Morrisons in Watford, the ball really began rolling.

The parties met with Community Housing and a house-swap was agreed.

The Rudolf Steiner School in Kings Langley announced it would close.

It had been told by Ofsted it had serious problems with safeguarding of students in 2016, and had appealed a ban from the Department for Education from accepting new pupils the following year.

It failed another inspection in 2018 and finally struggled to find insurance for the next school year.

As the month neared its end, Mayor Peter Taylor revealed plans for 'Boris' bikes and an Uber-style app to call minibuses.
