An MP has given a statement on how she voted in last night’s vote in Parliament.

Kate Osamor, MP for Edmonton has had her say on the defeat of the Prime Minister’s Brexit Deal.

She said: “The EU Withdrawal Meaningful Vote was the largest defeat of any government in British history.

“The scale of the defeat is unprecedented.

“The Prime Minister must resign. The current deadlock is entirely the fault of the Prime Minister.

“She failed to find a deal that Parliament could agree on. She has failed to heal the divisions in our country.

“She has instead focused on keeping the Tories in government – that has been her primary concern.

“And what can we show for almost nine years of Conservative government? Record homelessness, 4 million children in poverty, queues at food banks, an exhausted NHS, crisis in our schools, Universal Credit crumbling and our global standing has perhaps never been weaker.

“Theresa May must go, so Labour can negotiate a deal with the EU that will pass in Parliament, one that will provide a custom’s union, and which will protect jobs, workers’ rights and environmental standards.

“That is why I hope MPs will vote for Labour's motion of no confidence in this hopeless government.”
