A children's mental health charity is planning a number of community events to reach its fundraising target of £3000.

Carefree Kids is based on Sutherland Road in Walthamstow and works with young people, families and schools using non-directive therapeutic play to help children release troubling emotions.

It hopes the events will raise awareness and engage with the community, as well as raise funds to help its work with children.

Since 2015 the charity has held around 5,800 therapeutic sessions with children.

The events schedule for the charity is starting with a quiz night at the Rose and Crown Theatre Pub in Hoe Street on March 28.

Chair of the charity Adam Land said: "We are a community-based charity and plan to run a number of events locally during 2019 to raise awareness of the work that we do, to deepen our connections to the local community and also to raise funds to support our work. We also very much hope to have some fun along the way."After the quiz night out next event is the Hackney Half Marathon. We will be supporting our team of six runners who have pledged to run like unicorns.

"We're aiming to raise £3,000 by the end of June from sponsorship for the Hackney Half. This would cover the costs of recruiting, training and supervising five volunteer therapeutic play facilitators, each of whom would be able to support one or more young people this year."

The Hackney Half Marathon is to take place on May 19.

The charity has planned other events including a family fun day in the summer and an evening discussion of the mental health challenges facing our young people, on or around world mental health day on October 10.

The charity is also looking at ways to participate in local events such as the Walthamstow Social and the E17 Art Trail, as well as Waltham Forest's celebrations at being London Borough of Culture 2019.

Carefree Kids was launched in 2004 by psychotherapist Ros Kane after who developed an early intervention support model for children's emotional and mental health.
