Thames Water have been handed a notice to clean up rubbish that has been left on beside a river.

Enfield Council handed the Enforcement notice to Thames Water on February 12 which demanded the rubbish be cleared up within 14 days from beside the New River between Bush Hill and Ridge Avenue – otherwise legal action would follow.

Residents and passers-by who noticed the dump had been appealing to the council to do something about it for nearly six weeks.

Thames Water, as it is on their land have responsibility over the removal of the rubbish.

A Thames Water spokesperson has revealed the company will be cleaning the site and have hired a specialist company to do so.

A spokesperson said: “This is very frustrating and a complete waste of time and our customers’ money.

“We’ve appointed a specialist company to remove the rubbish and are agreeing a date for the work to be done.”
