A housebuilder will redevelop a former Edwardian lodging into a £50million “London commuter” village.

Consero London will transform Birchville Court and grounds in Bushey into the newly-named Heathbourne Village, with 41 homes.

The plan includes 22 apartments and penthouses for private sale, five detached houses also for private buyers, and 14 shared-ownership and social rented homes.

Robert Osborn, managing director of Consero London said: “We are known for the high quality of our classic British architecture and interiors, and our ability to create schemes that compliment their setting.”

Birchville Court became an NHS accommodation building for nurses working at Bushey Maternity Hospital in 1947 before converting into a private nursing home in 1987.

The site, which has been unused for several years, has had planning applications to be redeveloped since 2008.

Heathbourne Village properties will have “traditional English country architecture”, including brick detailing, pitched roofs and bay windows.

Steven Glover, land and sales director of Consero London, said: “Returning the Birchville Court site to its residential origins will create exciting opportunities for buyers, providing high quality and good design in the Bushey marketplace.”

The apartments and houses will be priced from around £800,000 up to £2.5 million and the scheme is expected to launch this summer.

Birchville Court is the first of the developer’s expansion plans.
