A Jewish community centre was buzzing with excitement after the first of its kind opened its doors to the public.
Hundreds of people gathered and popped by the Jewish Life Centre in Borehamwood on March 10 with a ribbon cutting officially marking the launch of the centre.
Led by Rabbi Chaim and his wife Leah, of Chabad of Borehamwood & Elstree, the centre, situated in the Explore Learning building by Borehamwood Shopping Park, welcomes people of all faiths and beliefs.
It’s described as a place where everyone can "feel and experience the warmth and vitality in Jewish life that Elstree and Borehamwood have to offer".
At the launch, guests, which included members of the Jewish community, councillors, and donors, and other visitors were treated to a tour of the centre and some traditional food and drink.
There was face painting inside and passers-by may have spotted and heard some dancing and singing outside too.
And the Jewish Life Centre is getting straight into the action with its event to celebrate Purim, an annual Jewish holiday that commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman, who was planning to kill all the Jews in the ancient Achaemenid Persian Empire.
The centre has also already welcomed children for activities where they also have an opportunity to learn about a range of issues and topics.
