The price of fuel can be dear – and there is nothing worse than turning up to a petrol station where the costs for topping up exceeds your card limit.
Have you ever wondered how much cheaper your commute by car could be if you lived elsewhere in the UK?
Using data collated by GoCompare, we can tell you the some of the cheapest and most expensive places to fill up in the country.
The data for 83 UK areas was collected after February, which marked the end of three consecutive months of tumbling fuel prices - not a common occurrence for us dreamers.
The figures show Lancaster could be the most expensive place for fuel, costing a staggering 141.9p per litre to fill up.
Worcester was slightly cheaper at 131.3p per litre, while Exeter (124.9p) and Tunbridge Wells (124.1p) also proved costly to fill up.
The most affordable city could be Edinburgh, costing only 114.3p per litre to top up.
Leeds (114.7p), Bradford (114.9p) and Preston (115p) were also among the areas with the lowest cost of fuel.
Below is a breakdown of how your area compares:
St Albans – 117.3p
Out of 83 UK areas examined by GoCompare, St Albans ranks in the middle – it is the 44th most affordable place for fuel.
But when looking at the average hourly wage in the city (£28), the data suggests residents/workers in St Albans spend the lowest proportion of their income on fuel.
Watford – 117.5p
Meanwhile in Watford, the average cost of fuel is 2p greater than that of St Albans. And it ranks as the 46th most affordable place for fuel when looking at all 83 areas.
However, when taking into account the average hourly wage at £17.95, the data suggests Watford people a relatively lower proportion of their hourly income on fuel - 6.5%.
North and east London – 117p
North and east London areas are equally ranked as the 40th most affordable place for fuel.
But the average hourly wage in north London is £20.87, while in east London it is £18.93. This suggests east Londoners are spending a slightly higher proportion of their wage on fuel.
