Rae Potter and Darren Lee both enjoyed dual title success at Linkside Lawn Tennis Club’s finals day in Wanstead.

Unlike last year’s heatwave, the matches took place in milder conditions, with the ladies’ singles final the first to be played.

This brought together multiple women's singles finals winner Potter and young newcomer Zoe O'Brien.

Potter looked set to add to her title haul after winning the first set 6-3 and bringing up match point in the second, However, O’Brien refused to admit defeat and came back strongly to level the match 7-5 before winning the final set 6-4.

Potter was also involved in the ladies’ doubles final with Angela Shea as they faced Ophelia Soares and Abby Mckinlay.

This also proved to be a hard-fought contest and went to three sets, but the more-experienced Shea and Potter took the title 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

A total of 38 players competed in six rounds for Linkside’s men’s singles crown.

Liam Brearley took part in the tournament for the first time and he reached the final by winning against 15-year-old Seyon Kuhan, who had upset two-time winner Sam Roberts in the quarter-finals.

Brearley’s reward was a clash with the very experienced Lee in the final.

Like in the ladies’ event, experience seemed to make the difference, but on this occasion Lee came out on top, again after a three-set battle.

He won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to claim the club title for a fourth time after his first victory came in 2010.

More success followed in the doubles where Lee teamed up with Roberts, coming from behind to defeat James Trueman and Tim Hutchinson 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

However, Lee’s hopes of making it a hat-trick of titles were scuppered in the mixed doubles final in what proved to be the only two-set match of the day.

Lee partnered Shea but they were beaten 7-5, 7-6 by Marcus Brissenden and Potter, who was able to celebrate her second victory.
