A murder investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed to death in north London.

Police found the 29-year-old man with serious injuries last night (Saturday, September 14) in Houndsfield Road, Edmonton, just after 8.10pm following a report of a man with stab injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Police say that following the attack, members of the public chased down and detained a suspect in a field during a party at the nearby Old Edmontonians FC clubhouse on Saturday evening.

The clubhouse manager said the attack did not happen on the club's ground, adding the two men appeared to come from a nearby playing field.

He said: "I was shocked by it. You read about these things but you don't expect it to be happening right in front of you."

DCI Paul Considine said: “I need all those present to call police with information about what they saw take place.

“We are in the process of gathering witness statements and reviewing local CCTV footage. A crime scene remains in place and specialist forensics team are working on this case. The incident is not thought to be connected to the event or the football club."
