Gardening Group wins a Royal Horticultural Society award.
The Northwick Park Gardening has won the ‘Thriving’ award in a Royal Horticultural Society ceremony, It’s Your Neighbourhood, for the gardening groups Northwick Park Station garden.
The group was set up in 2017, by Lenz Haring when he was aged 7, with his grandmother Geraldine Auerbach MBE of Harrow. It has since attracted additional volunteers and plant donations.
Of the four flowerbeds on the platform, one features lavenders and herbs, another large shrubs. One is a wild grass and flower garden, and the last one is devoted to Alpine plants.
The judges at the Royal Horticultural Society loved the diversity, the eye-catching benefit for the travelling public, and the interest shown in the welfare of wildlife.
Since its implementation, many rail travellers have commented on the benefits they feel of seeing the gardens in bloom.
Since the groups success, Transport for London (TfL) invited them to undertake more stations up and down the Metropolitan Line, at Preston Road and Rayners Lane. Those gardens also won the accolade of ‘Thriving’ in the recent awards.
The Northwick Park Gardening Group is continuing to look for more volunteers as well as donations of plants or money to keep these gardens looking beautiful throughout the year.
