Medieval music group The Telling bring their critically acclaimed Christmas tour Secret Life of Carols to Holy Trinity Stroud Green, Finsbury Park, on Friday, December 6, at 7.30pm. The programme explores a mix of uplifting and intimate medieval English carols and traditional carols from Finland, Germany, Austria, France and Catalonia, in an atmospheric setting with candlelit, accompanied by beautiful animated films by Kate Anderson.

Singer Clare Norburn said: “You don’t need to know anything about classical or medieval music to enjoy and come along – and even to join in. We perform some numbers while moving around the audience and use lighting and candlelight and we’ll tell you some of the stories behind the carols too. Carols were quite revolutionary in their day. They were the music of the people, in the language of the people – at a time when the church service was in Latin. They were all about joining in.”

The Telling’s performance in Finsbury Park is part of a 10-date tour funded by Arts Council England this December. The Telling is also running a free Advent Carol Calendar on Twitter (follow them on @thetellingmusic) and YouTube. They will be releasing a new film of a verse of a different carol, together with secret carol facts, each day from December 1 to 24.
