A mother is putting together a Christmas fair for villagers this weekened.

Holly Rolph,27, wants to transform Oxhey village green in Lower Paddock Road into a winter wonderland of festive fun this Sunday.

Ms Rolph says: "It will be a fun family event with face painting, stalls selling homemade goods, seasonal drinks like mulled wine and hot chocolate, a snow machine, and even a visit from Santa himself and his reindeer. There will be a raffle and bottle tombola with fantastic prizes donated from local businesses."

"There will be singing around the Christmas tree, roasted chestnuts as well as Christmas arts and crafts activities for the children. It will be a truly magical frost fair for all the family."

The fair will be in aid of Age UK, which at Christmas time in particular helps combat loneliness in elderly people.

Ms Rolph added: "Recently my next door neighbour passed away and for me cases like his are the epitome of exactly what charities like AGE UK are trying to combat.

"He lived on his own as his brother who he had lived with died ten years ago. He would wave and greet me everyday but really he kept himself to himself and didn’t want for any attention or fuss.

"It wasn’t until he had a horrible fall at the end of our shared garden and had broken his hip that I spoke to him properly.

"When I went into his house, it became clear time had frozen for him with piled newspapers and a bed on the sofa because he could. He went to a hospice but sadly died there.

"But I take comfort in knowing that he was in a happy and settled place where he had the right care and people around him rather than being alone."

The fair will take place on Sunday 8th December at 1.30pm until 5pm on Oxhey Village Green, Lower Paddock Road, Oxhey
