THE trailer for a new documentary revealing the remarkable rise of Warrington Wolves’ physical disability rugby league team has been released.

Adam Hills: Take His Legs airs on Friday night and follows the Australian comedian and his Wire teammates’ journey from forming through open trials to becoming world champions within the space of six months.

The 60-minute, one-off special will air on Channel 4 at 11.30pm.

Hills, host of Channel 4’s the Last Leg, said: “Playing PDRL has been one of the greatest adventures of my life.

“I’m so glad we brought a camera with us, because it took me to places I never expected – like Wakefield.

“More than that though, it has shown me the power that sport has to change lives.”

The Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation side travelled down under to beat South Sydney Rabbitohs in the inaugural PDRL World Club Challenge at ANZ Stadium in August 2018.

Earlier this year, the Wire also become the winners of the first PDRL Super League Grand Final.

Warrington Guardian:

But the documentary will also focus on players’ struggles with mental health problems and post-traumatic stress disorder, and promises ‘a story of passion, determination and the amazing ability of sport to unite and overcome’.

Pete Thomas, of documentary makers Noah Media, said: “This story grew into something we could never have imagined – not only on the field, in the amazing journey to the World Club Challenge in Sydney, but also off the field.

“An extraordinary team came together and demonstrated the power of sport and teamwork in overcoming both physical and mental challenges.”

Channel 4 commissioner Fozia Khan added: “It’s been an absolute joy to commission this inspiring and thought-provoking film.

“The story goes beyond the sports field into the lives of these incredible men to show the highs and lows of achieving their life’s dream.

“It’s very funny as well.”
