Police have said they are investigating a “serious assault” on a young man after Watford High Street was taped off this evening.

The incident happened outside Costa in the High Street this afternoon (February 7) at around 4.50pm.

It is believed a man had an argument with a group of people immediately before he was assaulted.

Police say he suffered a "serious injury".

The man was later found seriosuly injured outside Costcutter in Queens Road.

The man was airlifted to hospital.

Police believe the victim and suspects knew each other.

Hertfordshire Constabulary is appealing for any witnesses to the assault or anyone who saw an argument outside Costa.

Police have taped off Watford High Street this evening outside McDonald's at the junction of King Street but it is open to pedestrians.

Police are also blocking all access to vehicles into the High Street from the lower High Street.
