A temple which shut after one of its members tested positive for coronavirus has reopened.

Bhaktivedanta Manor Hare Krishna Temple, near Bushey, closed its doors on Friday, March 6 after a worshipper tested positive for Covid-19.

In a statement released on its website, the manor said it will be "fully open" from today (Wednesday, March 11).

It said: "All activities will resume as per normal.

"We cannot emphasise enough your personal responsibility to follow the stipulated guidelines in keeping yourself and others safe.

"Be conscious that it is the elderly and those with pre-existing medical conditions that are most at risk. If you are unwell postpone visiting the temple until you are better."

When the temple shut last Friday the manor said: "In the interest of the health of all devotees and visitors as a precautionary measure the temple is now closed to the public.

"It will remain closed until further notice.

"All planned events (Sri Krishna Haveli opening, Gaura Purnima festivities etc) at the temple from today (6.3.20) until Monday (9.3.20) have been cancelled.

"Sadly a member of the congregation tested positive for COVID-19. The person has not been to the temple but others have been in contact with them.

"The temple will be deep cleaned after which it will again be open.

"The cleaning may take anything between 24 to 48 hours. If you have service at the temple, please contact your service authority."

As of 9am, March 10, 16 people in Hertfordshire have tested positive for coronavirus.

This figure of 16 is higher than any other local authority in the UK - although there are more cases in London but London is split up into boroughs.

Known cases in the county include Davenport House Surgery in Harpenden, Peartree Spring Primary School in Stevenage, Woolgrove School Special Needs Academy in Letchworth and Camelot's head office at Watford.

Two parents at Ashlyns School in Berkhamsted have also tested positive for coronavirus.
