Waltham Forest schools will continue to offer free school meals to children self-isolating at home.
Waltham Forest Catering is providing a range of options to schools, including hot takeaway meals, packed lunches and weekly food hampers.
The team are also working in schools serving the children of key workers, who are still allowed to attend under lockdown rules.
In a video filmed at Thorpe Hall School in Walthamstow, Waltham Forest Catering employee Karen said: “In this situation at the moment, everybody needs to help each other.
“So we’re here basically to help out the children, help out the teachers and just do our best and do what we can.”
Food can be collected from the child’s school or another local school or parents may have supermarket vouchers emailed to them.
In a newsletter to residents, Waltham Forest Council stated: “Your school will advise you on what they offer, how you can collect this and what to do if you are self-isolating.
“If your school is shut, your school should contact you to tell you what they have put in place to ensure children can access food.”
Redbridge Council was asked what scheme is in place for Free School Meals in its borough but has yet to respond.
