More than 200 homes and a Lidl supermarket could be built at the site of a former car showroom.

Developer Montreaux has drawn up plans for 204 flats in two blocks between four and seven storeys high at 231 Colney Hatch Lane, Friern Barnet.

It comes after a car showroom and service garage that previously occupied the site closed last year.

Montreaux’s proposals also include a food store, with discount retailer Lidl named as the “proposed occupier”.

The plans have been submitted to Barnet Council, and residents are now able to comment on them using the online planning portal.

If approved, the scheme would provide a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom homes, with 35.8 per cent classed as affordable by unit.

There would also be 102 car parking spaces for the homes and 65 spaces for the food store.

According to a planning statement submitted on behalf of the applicant, concerns raised by residents who attended public exhibitions on the proposed scheme included traffic congestion, parking displacement and the impact on local nature reserve Coppetts Wood.

The document later states: “The transport effects of the proposed development are not considered to require any mitigation.

“Proposed highway improvements form part of this planning application to assist in the promotion of sustainable travel behaviour.”
