Watford FC’s selfless initiative to help NHS staff at its neighbouring Watford General Hospital, along with other facilities in the area operated by West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, deserves fulsome public credit. The club has stepped up to the plate at this time of need, providing a range of practical support services including free breakfast and lunch meals to these key health workers.
It’s being helped to do this by the altruism of local volunteers, whom we should also thank. Two of these kind people are my own neighbours, Marion and Rebecca Connolly, who start their unpaid ‘shifts’ at 7am and continue through into the afternoon.
Marion and Rebecca would be the first to say that they are doing nothing special. But as examples of all the volunteers like them who are doing their bit at this time, my other neighbours and I would like to express our sincere appreciation.
