LIFEBOAT volunteers have been forced to launch to call in two in a dinghy before the weather closed in.

Rhyl Coastguard Team requested the launch of Rhyl’s Inshore Lifeboat at 5pm on Tuesday, June 16 to investigate two persons in a small inflatable, about 700 metres from the shore off Kinmel Bay.

When the Inshore Lifeboat crew arrived on scene they found two men, on a small 2m inflatable dinghy fishing. The two men were advised that without an engine and with the weather beginning to close in, they should make their way ashore, as it wouldn’t be safe for them to remain at sea during the weather forecast.

Martin Jones, Rhyl Lifeboat Coxswain said ‘We always recommend people check the forecast before heading out to sea.

“Our crew have remained on call all through lock down and are always ready to respond to any situation, due to the Inshore Lifeboats size our crew wore full PPE and face masks during the service call, as social distancing was not possible."

The two men were taken aboard the Inshore Lifeboat and taken back to shore to where they had launched from on Kinmel Bay beach. Rhyl Coastguard Team were on hand to relay some safety advice.

Mr Jones added: “If you see someone in trouble at the coast please dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
