The reopening of high street shops on Monday is positive news for our town.

Many of them have lost revenue after more than two months of lockdown, but they are finally back in business.

We are encouraging readers to support Watford businesses with our campaign #lovelocalbusiness.

And we are asking readers to tell us about their favourite shop through our online form.

But as lockdown restrictions ease, we are reminding people to shop safely and to follow social distancing rules.

Many shops have made changes to the way they do business and implemented safety measures.

These include making more space in their premises, limiting the number of customers entering the store, and asking people not to pay by cash.

One-way systems and signs reminding people to keep two metres apart are also in place in the town centre.

If you have been asked to take a diversion due to a new one-way system, prompted by a stranger to keep your distance, or asked by shop staff to pay by card, try not to take offence. Try to understand that we are entering a new normal, and shopping trips will be very different to how they used to be.
