GUIDANCE and answers to frequently asked questions have been published ahead of children returning to schools across Conwy.

The information has been compiled for parents by Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) ahead of schools reopening on Monday, June 29.

Cllr Julie Fallon, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “The decision you take is your decision as a family to allow your children to return to schools. When the education minister made the announcement, she made it clear that it was voluntary.

“I just want to reassure you that in making that decision, we are here working hard to ensure the policies and procedures are in place for the schools and for the Children to be able to come back.”

Alongside frequent hand washing, hand sensitiser stations, social distancing signage and appropriately spaced desks, the council has two key provisions available.

There will be a continuation of emergency childcare provision for Keyworkers’ children - including nursery children.

If eligible, parents and carers will need to book online to access free childcare support on days when they are workingand there is no alternative childcare provision.

However from Saturday 27, weekend childcare provision will cease. Childcare will be offered over the school summer holidays, however as per Welsh Government guidelines this will not by schools.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We are currently looking at what the Local Authority will offer over the school summer holidays and we will update families when details are confirmed.”

The second provision available is the commencement of the Check in, Catch Up and Prepare scheme to help bring children up to speed to prepare for the start of term in September.

The provision is available for all school age children - excepti nursery and post-16 learners - during normal school.

This is voluntary for children to attend and as schools are working with a maximum 30 percent capacity, with children attending on a rota basis.

This will allow for a percentage of pupils to attend school alongside the emergency childcare provision.
