TWO Warrington companies have featured in a list of the country’s biggest and best.

The 19th annual Sunday Times HSBC Top Track 100 league table ranks Britain’s 100 private companies with the biggest sales, and before Covid-19 struck.

And two of the businesses are based in Warrington.

Westbrook-based European Metal Recycling is the second best north west firm and 16th overall with sales of £2.9billion last year.

It employs almost 3,500 people across the world and had profits last year of £70million at year end in December.

Birchwood-based Fircroft was also on the list.

The recruitment consultancy has sales of £804 million and profits of £10 million.

It was 95th on the list and employs 735 members of staff.

The league table programme is sponsored by HSBC and Linklaters, and compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford-based research and networking events firm.

Amanda Murphy, head of commercial banking, HSBC UK, saidd: “Uncertainty and volatility remain watchwords in the current climate but we at HSBC UK are confident that Britain’s business leaders, such as those at the helm of the companies in the northwest of England on this year’s Top Track 100, will rise to the challenge.

“The country has found new reserves of energy in the face of adversity and the businesses that can harness that energy and pace of change will thrive in the ‘new normal’.”
