A MAN who stole almost £600 worth of meat has been barred from every Asda and Lidl store in the country.
Michael Bryn Shanley stole £420.70 worth of meat from Asda in Totton on June 30.
The 32-year-old also stole £177.69 worth of meat from the town’s Lidl store on the same day.
Appearing at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on July 1, Shanley admitted two counts of theft.
Shanley, whose address was given as Andrew Close, Totton, was handed two 12-week prison sentences to run consecutively, suspended for two years.
The magistrates noted the reason for this sentence as due to the high value of the meat stolen to feed the defendant’s drug habit.
Shanley was issued with a four-month curfew, where by he must not enter any Asda or Lidl store in the UK.
The court also ordered the defendant to pay a £128 surcharge and £85 costs.
