A murder probe has been launched after a man in his twenties was shot dead.

Police were called to reports of shots fired in Edmonton at around 9pm last night (Wednesday).

The victim was found in the street with a gunshot wound.

Paramedics and an air ambulance were scrambled to the scene, but the victim was pronounced dead just before 10pm.

Detecitves are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. No-one has been arrested.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "Police were called to Beaconsfield Road, Edmonton, at around 9pm on Wednesday to reports of a shooting.

"Officers attended and found a man - believed to be in his mid-20s - in the street suffering from a gunshot injury. They immediately provided First Aid.

"Ambulance crews and London’s Air Ambulance also attended but, despite the efforts of officers and paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 10pm.

"A crime scene has been put in place. There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue."
