New fast-track pavement licences have been introduced across Epping Forest to allow the use of outdoor space for food and drink services.
The move is aimed at helping local pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes bounce back from Covid-19 while maintaining social distancing to prevent the spread of the virus.
A pavement licence gives permission for the use of tables and chairs outside a business to allow customers to enjoy al fresco dining.
This should be great for Waltham Abbey’s town centre. Getting a bit more al-fresco dining and drinking should really help bring Sun Street and the Market Square to life.

Councillor Chris Whitbread, leader of the council, said: "This is yet another step towards helping our hospitality businesses get back on their feet, while maintaining social distancing to prevent the further spread of Covid-19 in our district."
This new process allows licences to be issued quickly and cheaply to ensure anyone who wants to use the space outside their business premises can do so without any unnecessary delays.
The cost of pavement licences will be capped at £100 and in some cases may be free of charge.
These are temporary measures until September 2021.
