Proposals to build two ponds to increase bio-diversity in Brampton have been submitted.

Carlisle City Council has received plans for the ponds to create “a degraded wetland for bio-diversity benefit” at Cairndale Caravan Park, in Heads Nook.

The application was submitted last week by Mrs Irving, from the caravan park.

According to the ecological assessment and mitigation submitted to the council by the Eden Rivers Trust, the project would improve ecology because the development would be beneficial to any nearby protected species.

It also stated that, in the construction of the ponds, no machinery would go within 10 metres of the river and the “spoil would be placed outside the flood zone” among other measures.

In September the site was given permission for seven luxury ‘glamping’ pods, which will be located on an existing field which serves the caravan site.

They will replace existing redundant touring caravans on the site.
