Hospitals in Newcastle and Middlesbrough to be involved in roll-out of Covid vaccine

Another North-East hospital has been added to a list of vaccination "hubs" which will take part in the first phase of the Covid jab roll-out.

It had been previously reported that only one hospital in the North-East, run by the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, had been earmarked as taking part.

A letter that had been sent to all NHS trust chief executives last month listed 50 trusts which would see hospitals become vaccination hubs. Read the full story here.

North Yorkshire Police continue Covid border patrol clampdown

Police are warning people not to travel into its Tier 2 area as Covid restrictions will be enforced through high-visibility patrols.

North Yorkshire Police has said it will only attend pubs and restaurants as 'a last resort' but vehicles travelling in and out of the county will continue to be monitored by number plate recognition equipment.

The force said local authorities and Trading Standards are leading the enforcement of business restrictions amid concern that people could travel from neighbouring Tier 3 zones into the area. Read the full story.

Covid: What are the quarantine rules after travelling abroad?

While the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is advising against all non-essential international travel, people may be coming back into the country after a work trip, backpacking or studying abroad.

Most people coming to the UK from most other countries must quarantine for two weeks, even if they are British nationals. This leaves just enough time to quarantine before friends and families reunite in time for Christmas.

New walk-in testing centre confirmed for North-East

North-East next week as the government redoubles its efforts to tackle Covid-19.

The new site will be in the car park of the Chuter Ede Community Association in Galsworthy Road, South Shields.

Work on building the site is planned to get underway from Monday, December 7 with the facility opening to the public later next week. Read more here.

Hundreds more test positive for Covid in North-East and North Yorkshire

A further 830 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the North-East and North Yorkshire.

The Government said that, as of 9am on Friday, there had been a further 16,298 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 1,690,432. See latest figures here
