Teenager jailed for murder of James Amadu in Enfield

Romeo Mapeza, 19, was sentenced on Monday to a minimum of 20 years in prison for the death of James Amadu.

Mr Amadu died from a single stab wound inflicted by Mapeza in Blossom Lane, Lavender Hill, near Chase Farm Hospital, on Halloween in 2019.

The Met Police were called to the scene just after 1pm following reports of a stabbing although no one was at the scene when officers and the London Ambulance Service arrived.

The victim, Mr Amadu had taken himself to hospital but died at 2.21pm the same day.

An investigation was launched by the Met who found out a "shocking" dispute had taken place between groups.

The day after the fatal stabbing, Mapeza was arrested and charged with murder.

On October 30, Mapeza of Watermill Lane, N18, was found guilty of the murder of Mr Amadu, as well as violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Monday to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years.

An unnamed 16-year-old boy from Enfield was found guilty of manslaughter and violent disorder. He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.

Franklyn Amadu, 24, of Linwood Crescent, Enfield, was found guilty of violent disorder. He was given a two year suspended sentence.

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, said: "This was a piece of appalling violence on a quiet Thursday afternoon that brought terror to the local residents.

"The participants didn’t care who was nearby and sadly this shocking violence led to the death of James Amadu.

"I would like to thank those who came forward to assist the police in this investigation."
