The leader of Enfield Council has urged residents to continue to follow public health advice aimed at stopping the spread of Covid-19.

Cllr Nesil Caliskan said following the guidelines would “make sure we can return to normality as quickly and rapidly as we possibly can” after the Government set out a “roadmap” to ease lockdown restrictions.

She added that the council would continue to do “everything it can” to protect residents and communities.

The Government roadmap, published on Monday, aims to ease lockdown restrictions in four stages – providing key tests on the vaccine rollout and case numbers are met.

Cllr Caliskan said: “It will be comforting to many people to have a roadmap to reopening the country after what has been a very difficult year for everyone.

“However, we all recognise the need to be cautious and continue to follow the scientific advice to protect our communities from coronavirus.

“The Government also has a responsibility to review its plans at every stage, because the threat of Covid has not vanished and the rollout out of the vaccine is not yet complete.

“Enfield Council will continue to do everything it can to protect its residents and our communities from coronavirus and while the nation eases its way out of lockdown. I would urge residents to follow all the public health advice to make sure we can indeed return to normality as quickly and rapidly as we possibly can.

“We are supporting more than 22,000 people on the NHS shielding list and providing them a range of advice and support to help them with any financial and food hardship they may be experiencing at this time.”
