Epping Town Council is seeking funding to revamp Stonards Hill recreation ground.

The town council has drawn up a 'wish list' of projects which includes surfacing repairs to the main car park (estimated at £15,000) and at the Jack Silley Pavilion car park (£5,000 to £10,000), and a repaired or new height barrier at the main car park (£1,000).New main gates and posts could be installed at the Jack Silley Pavilion car park.

The council is also looking to double the width of the footpath between the main car park and Jack Silley Pavilion (£15,000-£20,000).

A running track or tarmac path around the whole recreation ground is also on the list (£40,000 estimated cost) while 'around-the-pitch' drainage is being considered to reduce waterlogging and flooding issues (a quotation of £25,000 was obtained in 2017).

The council is also looking to convert some of the street lights to LED (£3,000) while a new contract for the emptying of dog waste bins, with the current bins replaced with larger multi-purpose litter bins, could cost about £3,000.

The total 'wish list' amounts to between £117,000 and £120,000.

Councillor Nigel Avey said: "We are not going to get everything unless the town council wins the lottery or we find funding for it from elsewhere."

Councillor Barbara Scruton said the paths and perimeter track should be a priority, adding: "We get a lot of walkers up there, it would be nice to see a path all around the park."

Work will be undertaken if successful funding can be obtained.
