Manager Potter had admitted he has not thought about the finish in that way, but hopes the club can build on a successful season.

He said: "I have not thought about it that way (qualifying for Europe) but the challenge for us is to keep moving forward that is what it is.

"Last season we had 41 points, but we thought we deserved more with the level of performance, so for two years we have performed at a really good level.

"You know, unless you get the wins and points it is not so easy for people to see. So we have taken steps I think, in the three years when I look back we have gone through quite a lot.

"Now we are sat here 9th in the Premier League with 51 points, with a lot of players making their first seasons in the league, which means they are going to get better and better.

"We have got Robert Sanchez, Adam Webster, Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, these are assets on the pitch. We are in a good place.

"The margins are not small between places so you have to keep fighting and stick together and that is what I think we have done this season.
