Herts Police have extended a person’s bail in connection with the death of a man on the M1 near Watford.

The body was found close to the hard shoulder between junctions 4 and 5 on Monday, December 4 – 34 hours after what Herts Police believed to be a “minor” crash.

Weeks later, a 28-year-old man from Leicester was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision.

He had been released on bail until March while enquiries continued, but the force yesterday (March 18) confirmed the suspect has been re-bailed until June.

A second man from Hemel Hempstead, 24, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. His bail period is set to expire on March 25.

After a post-mortem examination on December 6, the provisional cause of death for the man, who was from London and in his 40s, was a traumatic head injury.

At the time, Detective Inspector Garry Webb said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this terrible time.

"Specially trained officers are continuing to support them and are keeping them updated.”
