Police have been stepping up patrols to tackle gang violence and drugs on the street in a ‘day of action’ .

Families living around Tottenham’s Bruce Castle neighbourhood and nearby Northumberland Park were invited to raise issues such as yobs behaving badly at a session on Wednesday (Jan 29).

Stalls were set up in the operation with Haringey Council on the Rothbury Walk Estate and in White Hart Lane.

Staff were on hand to hear about problems such as fly-tipping, housing and rogue traders.

But the real beef has been about anti-social behaviour.

“I know just how important preventing crime is to businesses and residents,” Haringey Council’s cabinet member Cllr Ajda Ovat said.

“Together we can build a cleaner and safer community for us all.”

The police were having “a visible presence” with patrols using “proactive policing” powers throughout the day till 10pm.

Neighbourhood action days by the Metropolitan Police and local authorities targeting crime hotspots are claimed as the reason for a 14% fall in recorded incidents across north London since they began last June.
