Children’s playgrounds are being made safer and “more welcoming” at eight public parks and recreation grounds in Tottenham and Wood Green by next spring.

Deals are being made with contractors by Haringey Council totalling £1.5 million to get the work started by the autumn after public consultations.

An online website has been set up to add ideas for four open spaces, with other consultations to follow.

Council cabinet member Cllr Emily Arkell went to see what’s needed at Bruce Castle Park, which is getting a £250,000 make-over along with Downhills Park and Lordship recreation ground.

“We’re working with families to design these projects to meet their needs,” Cllr Arkell said. “They get the chance to say how the money is spent with each scheme, to make sure playgrounds are accessible and welcoming for all children.”

Work is also planned at Chestnuts Park in Harringay, Markfield Park in South Tottenham, Paignton Park at Seven Sisters and recreation grounds at the Wood Green end of White Hart Lane and Belmont at West Green.
