Tottenham gangsters jailed for nightclub shooting

Gary Guthrie, 35, was gunned down after leaving a party at the Ice Rink club in Streatham in October 2007, the Old Bailey heard.

His friend Rowan Williams, 31, was shot in the back but survived the attack.

Junior Cameron, 27, of Hornsey, was found guilty of murder and jailed for life with a minimum term of 26 years.

Fellow gang member Darrell Albert, 28, of Brent, was convicted of attempting to murder Mr Williams and handed a life sentence with at least 13 years behind bars.

Both men were also each given life terms for gun possession and must serve a minimum of six years.

Mr Guthrie and Mr Williams had been to a party at the Starlight Club in the Ice Rink building.

The court heard that seven men including Albert and Cameron arrived later with their presence changing the whole mood of the venue.

During the trial Cameron claimed he had wrestled a gun from one of the victims group and it had gone off by accident following an argument over an alleged collision.

Albert claimed to carry a gun in certain areas of London after being the victim of shootings three times.

In evidence, he said he fired his gun in self-defence, as he believed he was being shot at.

Detective Inspector Stephen Horsley, of the Met's Trident unit which investigates black-on-black crime, said it appeared Mr Guthrie had simply been enjoying a night out with friends and branded the defendants dangerous men who needed to be locked up.

DI Horsley said: "It seems we will never hear any explanation why Gary Guthrie lost his life that night.

"It was certainly a night that will remain in the nightmares of anyone who was leaving the party and heard all the shots ring out or saw anything of the weapons being wielded, right there where so many members of the public were leaving the party and making their way to their cars."

He ended by thanking the witnesses who readily cooperated with the investigation.
