A new road opened on Wednesday as part of the PalaceXchange development which is changing the face of Enfield Town.

London Road will be connected to the busy Southbury Road via a one-way link through Genotin Road.

The link will be in place until September when a more ambitious road scheme will be put in place which will change the flow of traffic in London Road.

The new PalaceXchange shopping centre is set to open in October 2006.

A spokesman for developers ING Real Estate said: "PalaceXchange is bringing 22 new stores to the town as well as a number of improvements to parking, travel and the town centre. Topshop, New Look, TK Maxx, Clarks and Next have all put their names to the scheme, more than 15 months ahead of opening."

Enfield Town resident Ian Bishop-Laggett has been plotting the progress of the new development through his website www.enfieldtown.org.uk. He said: "This new road will only really affect people who use the Genotin Road car park, but we will have to see how it works when it opens to the public."
