Haringey Borough won the Essex Senior League title after edging to a 3-2 home victory over Bowers & Pitsea on Saturday.

It has been an exceptional season for Tom Loizou’s side, who have won 32 of their 36 league games.

Promotion has looked on the cards for a while and Boro finally clinched it after their win over the only team which still had a chance of catching them.

Haringey secured the title with two games to spare and can look forward to step four football next season which is likely to be in the Isthmian Division One North.

The hosts started nervously and conceded the opening goal after just 17 minutes when Luke Wilson smashed the ball into the net.

The visitors could have easily extended their lead after having a goal disallowed and a penalty from Lewis Manor was saved by goalkeeper Ashley Harris.

Boro improved significantly in the second half and levelled the game in the 57th minute through Dean Fenton’s 25-yard free-kick.

Haringey gave away another penalty and this time were punished as Manor fired home to restore Pitsea’s slender lead.

But Boro again equalised three minutes from the end when Macauley White scored his first goal for the club which came directly from a corner.

There was still time for a dramatic finish with Leroy Griffiths hitting a spectacular 40-yard winner to spark Haringey’s title celebrations.
