The Premier League is set to trial VAR at 15 matches this season.

Sky Sports news reports that the trial will come into effect after the conclusion of the current international break as the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) look to prove the system is fit for purpose.

Their findings will then be presented to Premier League shareholders next year ahead of a potential introduction in the 2019/20 season.

While the system will be tested the results of the VAR checks will have no impact on decisions made at games. The ‘as live’ scenarios are instead in place to see if the VAR hub, which is based at Stockley Park, can cope with monitoring multiple matches.

The first trial will take place during 3pm kick-offs on Saturday, September 15 and will include five top flight games.

Premier League officials are said to have been encouraged by the use of VAR during Carabao Cup games.
