Oxhey Jets’ encounters with Edgware Town have a tendency to end in a draw and their latest meeting was no different as the two sides fought out a goalless stalemate at the Boundary Stadium.

With the two teams separated by just three points in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division prior to Saturday’s kick-off, another close encounter looked like it could be on the cards and so it proved.

Edgware had a great chance to make an early breakthrough but young goalkeeper Filip Chalupniczak, deputising for Matty Evans, made a superb double save to ensure the game remained all-square.

Jets had the better of the attacking opportunities in the opening 20 minutes though, with Reece Cameron firing narrowly over, Sean Giordmaina glancing a header just wide while a Louis Bircham shot was saved.

The returning Jude Bell and captain Tom Gibson both helped ensure Jets remained solid, particularly important because Edgware had the edge in midfield with both sides forced into a number of changes.

Oxhey’s best spell came in the final 15 minutes and both Giordmaina and Cameron went close to snatching the win, only to be denied by excellent saves.

A goalless stalemate also looked to be on the cards for Northwood on Saturday, only for the Isthmian League South Central side to be denied a valuable point by a stunning late South Park strike.

Both sides missed big opportunities to take the lead in the opening 10 minutes; Lea-Van Sullivan blazing over from six yards for the visitors before Woods' Marley Hamilton curled an effort narrowly wide.

Mack Miskin had another good opportunity to give the home side the lead just before half-time when the left-back was inches away from turning home a cross.

Matt Hall needed to make a superb last-ditch clearance to deny Great Evans early in the second half after he had gone round Chris Rackley, and within a minute the Northwood keeper made a fingertip save to thwart Sam Remfrey.

Both sides continued to attack as the second half unfolded, but a goalless stalemate looked increasingly likely until Park snatched the points late on.

Leon Moore drove into the heart of Woods’ midfield before unleashing a strike from 25 yards that looped over Rackley to snatch the win.

Northwood’s hopes of bouncing back quickly from that defeat were thwarted as Tuesday night’s game with Marlow was postponed.

Berkhamsted closed the gap to Southern League Division One Central leaders Corby Town with a 4-2 victory at Didcot Town.

Steve Bateman’s side got off to a flying start when Jonathan Lacey scored with a fine strike from outside the area in the sixth minute, and the advantage was doubled when George Gilmore sliced a low Will Summerfield cross into his own net.

The Comrades maintained their dominance and were cruising by the hour mark after two goals in quick succession; Lacey nodding in his second before he turned provider for top scorer Lewis Toomey to net his 25th of the season.

The Railwaymen did pull two back in the closing stages through substitute Tom Stanley before Gilmore scored at the right end, but news of Corby’s 2-1 defeat at Barton Rovers sealed another good afternoon’s work for the Comrades.

Tring Athletic remain six points behind South Midlands Premier Division leaders Colney Heath after a 2-1 victory over Arlesey Town.

The outcome was decided early in the second half as all three goals were scored in a seven-minute period.

Michael Toner gave Tring the lead a minute after the break, an advantage doubled by Frazer John six minutes later, only for Arlesey to pull one back barely 60 seconds later.

Athletic were on the receiving end of a 2-1 defeat on Tuesday though, as they were knocked out of the Herts Senior Cup at London Colney.

Marcus Mealing scored a late goal for Tring from the penalty spot.
