Watford are in talks with Marseille over a potential move for want-away midfielder Pape Gueye, who only joined the club today.

Having signed a pre-contract agreement with the Hornets earlier this year, Gueye is now officially a Watford player following the expiry of his contract with Le Havre, but there is little chance he will be making an appearance at Vicarage Road any time soon.

After Gueye repeatedly tried to back out of the deal, claiming he was "badly advised", an amicable solution is now being sought and Marseille are interested in keeping the player in France and willing to pay some compensation in order to acquire his signature.

The Watford Observer has been told that talks were ongoing as of this morning, but are expected to be concluded "quickly".
