North Enfield Cricket Club’s 1st XI were condemned to back-to-back Hertfordshire Premier Cricket League defeats by Boxmoor on Saturday.

The hosts ran out winners by 101 runs, bowling North Enfield out for 167 in reply to their 268-6.

North Enfield suffered an early blow in their run chase, with Kieran Jones slicing to point for 14.

Despite a 45-run partnership between William Munt (30) and Tom Coughlan (22), the prospect of victory continued to slip away, as the required run rate continued to climb.

The writing was well and truly on the wall when they lost three wickets for the addition of just four runs and fell to 94-5.

Will Grisedale (15) and Josh Jones (28) put on 48 to manoeuvre the visitors towards 150, with the latter striking the ball very cleanly in particular.

Further lusty blows from Steve Gandy (15) helped them up to 167 and a reasonable return of four batting points.

Impressive partnerships at both the top and tail of the Boxmoor innings had earlier seen them power to an unassailable total.

They put on 79 for the first wicket, before an important double strike for North Enfield from Gandy (2-31).

At 142 – 2, Boxmoor were in the driving seat, only for captain Ishan Tilakaratna (1 - 30) to prise open the door once more.

Wickets from K Jones (1-21) and J Jones (2- 51) meant that the game was in the balance at 187-6, only for an unbroken 81-run partnership to power Boxmoor past 200, which ultimately proved more than enough.

Elsewhere, the club’s 2nd XI lost to Broxbourne by eight wickets, although 76 from Adam Jessop helped the Friendly XI beat Mandarins by 53 runs.
