North Enfield Cricket Club’s 1st XI moved up into fifth in Division 4B of the Hertfordshire Premier Cricket League with a routine five-wicket victory over Flamstead.
Having knocked the visitors over for 137, North Enfield reached their target of 138 with 13 overs to spare.
The hosts made a rapid start to their run chase, with captain Ishan Tilakaratna spearheading their sprint to 30-0 after the first two overs.
He took 22 from his first six deliveries and made 28 from 14, before being well caught at mid-on to leave North Enfield on 40-1 after 5.4 overs.
Despite William Munt (17) and Irfan Ali (21) adding 35 for the second wicket, both fell as North Enfield lost three wickets for two runs.
Munt was trapped LBW, before Ali could do little about a delivery that leapt and caught his glove to loop back to the bowler.
Derrick Sanders (0) was bowled to leave them 77-4, only for Tom Coughlan (31*) and Will Grisedale (9) to guide North Enfield past 100.
Grisedale was stumped as the hosts lost their fifth wicket, but Coughlan and Kieran Jones (14*) managed to see them safely home without any further alarms.
North Enfield had earlier picked up wickets in clusters to dismiss Flamstead for a below-par total on a relatively slow pitch.
Oliver Munt (3-28) and Sanders (1-22) struck with the new ball to reduce the visitors to 23-2, the former clattering into the stumps and the latter pinning Flamstead’s number three in front.
Despite a third-wicket stand of 47, Matthew Hodgins (3-19) struck a couple of decisive blows, either side of an LBW for Steve Gandy (1-33), including removing the dangerous Flamstead opener, who clothed a full toss to Gandy at deep mid-wicket.
A seventh-wicket partnership of 29 threatened to frustrate North Enfield, only for Jones (1-16) to make the breakthrough and Tilakaratna (1-10) to remove the last of the all-rounders.
Munt then duly mopped up the tail, leaving Flamstead 30 or 40 runs short of what would have been a challenging total on a surface that suited their skilful spinners.
Elsewhere, the club’s 2nd XI lost to Old Camdenians by five wickets, despite half-centuries from Garry Orton (71*) and Keith Alexander (51).
Adam Jessop claimed 4-23 in the Friendly XI’s 71-run win over Amersham on Sunday.
