North Enfield Cricket Club's Friendly XI held off a remarkable Red Square Lions (RSL) fightback to secure a dramatic three-run victory in a thriller at Strayfield Road.
After posting an imposing 277-2 from their 40 overs, North Enfield appeared firmly in control when the visitors slipped to 117-4.
However, a superb 143-run partnership reignited the contest and left the home side facing an unexpected battle.
The RSL fifth and sixth-wicket pair launched a stunning counter-attack, striking 18 fours and eight sixes between them to swing the momentum in the visitors' favour.
Ahmed Kaleem (1-44) claimed his maiden North Enfield wicket when he dismissed one of the pair for a blistering 85, but RSL remained favourites.
Darren Mathura (1-38) then removed the other set batter for 88, yet the visitors still needed only four runs from the final over.
In a nerve-shredding finish, Kaleem produced the decisive moment, delivering a maiden over to deny RSL and seal a memorable three-run triumph.
Earlier, Kieran Jones had produced one of the finest innings in the club's history, compiling the second-highest score ever recorded for North Enfield.
Jones struck 20 fours and five sixes in a magnificent 170 from 127 balls before falling to the final ball of the innings.
His score surpassed the unbeaten 169 he made against Pelican CC in 2022 and is bettered only by Faizel Patel's record 201 not out.
Jones shared an outstanding opening partnership of 210 with Otis Halley, whose excellent 74 brought up a third consecutive half-century.
Their stand ranks as the fifth-highest partnership in the club's history.
After Halley's dismissal, Jones accelerated further, passing 150 before Garry Orton contributed an unbeaten 12 as North Enfield reached a total that ultimately proved just enough.
Elsewhere, half-centuries from Tom Coughlan (62) and Ishan Tilakaratna (57) were not enough to prevent the first XI from slipping to a 104-run defeat against Boxmoor, while the second XI lost by 226 runs to Broxbourne.
The penultimate weekend of league action takes place this Saturday, alongside the club's annual T20 fixture against Enfield Ignatians RFC.
